Jeraldine “Jerry” Horton, age 84, of Odum passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023at her residence under the care of Hospice of South Georgia and surrounded by family and close friends.
Mrs. Horton was a native of Appling County but resided in Odum. She was born on March 15, 1938 to the late Wadyce Carter and the late Sarah Craven Carter. She was a former employee of Selco Industries and Appling Health Care and was a volunteer with the Ladies Auxiliary at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Horton was a longtime member of Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church and currently a member of Red Hill Baptist Church in Jesup. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Carroll Jack Horton and her son-in-law, Bobby Surrency.
Survivors include her only daughter, Christie Horton Surrency; grandchildren, Marion (Crystal) Surrency, Leslie (Marcus) Day, Lauren (Bill) Moseley; and great grandchildren, Shelby (Austin) Cravey, Madison Surrency and Chloe Surrency, Lily Beth Day, Lila Day and Vanna Moseley; sisters, Sherry (Johnny) Beecher and brother, Kelly (Amy) Carter. A host of extended family members also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Daniels and Rev. Jonathan Mann officiating and a eulogy by Marion Surrency. Interment will follow in Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Marion Surrency, Bill Moseley, Marcus Day, Carter Harrison, Jason Carter and Caleb Carter.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe & Doris Taylor, Sue Murphy, Sisters In Christ Ladies Group, Sherry Curry, Wanda Wagner, Faye Reynolds and Hospice of South Georgia.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.
