We are excited to announce that students in grades K – 5 from ACPS, AES, and FDES will continue to provide the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag over our local radio station each morning! Superintendent Dr. Scarlett M. Copeland stated, “The Pledge of Allegiance in a very important event each day in our schools throughout Appling County. We have received numerous positive comments from parents and community on these presentations. It is a privilege and honor to be able to stand, salute the flag, and pledge our allegiance to the flag and this great country! I am very proud of our students for learning and reciting the pledge. We are also working very hard to make sure students know the meaning behind these words in the Pledge of Allegiance.”
The Pledge of Allegiance of the United States is an expression of allegiance to the Flag of the United States and the republic of the United States of America, originally composed by Colonel George Balch in 1887, later revised by Francis Bellamy in 1892 and formally adopted by Congress as the pledge in 1942. The official name of The Pledge of Allegiance was adopted in 1945.
This privilege would not be possible if it were not for our forefathers who laid a great foundation for respecting and pledging the flag. We would also like to thank Ms. Peggy Miles, Jim Graham, and Caleb Karnoutsos with radio station WBYZ 94.5 for recording and airing these wonderful students!
