An ongoing drug investigation by the Appling County Sheriff’s Office led to the arrest of Michael Howard Starling age 55 of Baxley, on July 27, 2016. Starling is charged with Sale of a Controlled Substance/Oxycodone, and Manufacturing, distributing, dispensing or possessing counterfeit substance near park.
07-19-16—Answered a call to San Marco Road in reference to a Theft. Complainant stated several items have been stolen from his residence. Two children’s motorcycles, three grinders and several household items were taken. Investigation continues.
07-21-16—Answered a call to Hilltop Road in reference to a Juvenile Abuse. Complainant stated a juvenile family member came to her showing bruising he had received from an older brother. DFAC’s was notified and juvenile was removed from the residence pending further investigation.
07-21-16—Answered a call to Post Road in reference to a Domestic. Husband and wife had a verbal dispute which led to an altercation. Wife left the residence.
07-21-16—Answered a call to Eason’s Bluff Road in reference to a one-vehicle deer accident. No injuries were reported.
07-21-16—Answered a call to Veal Camp Road in reference to a Theft. Complainant stated while away on vacation his 2006 Ford F-150 truck was stolen from his residence. Vehicle was entered into GCIC records as stolen and investigation continues.
07-21-16—Answered a call to a local car lot in reference to a Theft. Complainant stated radio’s from two vehicles were stolen also causing damage to the dash of both vehicles. Investigation continues.
07-22-16—A routine traffic stop on East Tollison Street led to the arrest of Stephen M. Rogers age 62 of Baxley. Rogers was charged with VGCS/ Methamphetamine, Open Container, and Turn Signals required.
07-22-16—Answered a call to Lennox Road in reference to a Theft. Complainant stated she had bought a T.V. from a local store. Her son took the T.V. to another subjects home and the subject pawned the T.V… T.V. was valued at $2,000.00. Investigation continues.
07-22-16—Complainant came to the Sheriff’s Office to report a Counterfeit Bill. Complainant stated he went to a local business and paid for an item and when he received his change it was a counterfeit bill. Investigation continues.
07-23-16—Answered a call to Lee Woods road in reference to Threats. Complainant stated a female subject came to her residence making threats towards her son. Complainant asked the subject to leave and the subject left the residence.
07-23-16—A routine traffic stop on Hwy. 144 led to the arrest of Alvin Lynn Byrd age 50 of Baxley. Byrd was charged with DUI, VGCS/Marijuana, Failure to Stop at Stop Sign, and Obstruction of an Officer.
07-23-16—Answered a call to Penny Morris Road in reference to a one-vehicle deer accident. No injuries were reported.
07-24-16—Answered a call to Max Deen Drive in reference to Damage to Property. Complainant stated $800.00 worth of damage was done to his chain link fence gate. Investigation continues.
07-25-16—Answered a call to Satilla Church Road in reference to a one-vehicle deer accident. No injuries were reported.
07-26-16—Answered a call to a local car dealership in reference to a Theft. Complainant stated he went to his employer to pickup his payroll check. Employer stated his check had already been picked up. Check was found to have been cashed at a local bank by another individual. Investigation led to the arrest of Julius Earl Butler age 31 of Baxley. Butler was charged with Theft by Deception.
07-26-16—Answered a call to Buck Williams Road in reference to Threats. Complainant stated she received a phone call from an unknown person threatening her life.
07-26-16—Answered a call to Clint Johnson Road in reference to Suicide Threats. Complainant/Victim stated she had thoughts of harming herself. Subject was transported to Appling ER for treatment.
07-26-16—Answered a call to Walker Lane in reference to a Theft. Complainant stated someone entered her residence and took her wedding and several pieces of clothing were missing also. Investigation continues.
07-27-16—Answered a call to Poor Robin Road in reference to a one-vehicle deer accident. No injuries were reported.
07-27-16—Answered a call to Oak Street/Surrency in reference to Interference with Government Property. City Water & Maintenance employee stated a water meter at a residence on Oak Street had a lock put on the meter due to past due water bill. Lock had been put on twice and had been cut twice.
