William Anthony “Butch” Coleman – 74

William Anthony “Butch” Coleman, age 74, of Baxley passed away Monday, February 5, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Coleman was born December 22, 1949 in Metter, Georgia to the late Bascom Anthony Coleman and the late Gladys Mercer Coleman Woods.  He was Veteran of the United States Army and was employed by Golden Isles Supply Company. He was formerly employed with Vidalia Saving & Loan, Peoples State Bank, and Data Dimensions, Inc. of Alma. Mr. Coleman was a founding member of Four Rivers Bass Masters in Vidalia and was the longest living continuous member of the Appling County Touchdown Club. He was also a member of American Legion Post 172 and Georgia Bankers Association. He was the longtime vocalist & drummer of the Double Eagle Band which was named the 2018 Traditional Country Artist of the Year in Georgia.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Glenda Coleman of Baxley; sons, Tony (Sandra) Coleman of Macon and Joey (Amy) Coleman of Baxley; sister, Sarah (James) O’Brien of Metter; brother, Ben (Diane) Coleman of Dallas, TX. Seven grandchildren, Catlin (Coey) Norman, Karessa Coleman, Garrison Coleman, Naomi Coleman, Layton Coleman, Toni Coleman, Kori Coleman, and two great-grandchildren, Oaklyn Norman & Ailyn Norman; nephews, Mark (Anya) Coleman, Jim (Jerry) O’Brien, and Jaime O’Brien also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 9, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Statum and Mr. Roy McClung officiating.

Interment will follow in Rose Mary Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Metter at 3:00 p.m. with Military Honors.

Active pallbearers will be Jamey O’Brien, Jim O’Brien, Layton Coleman, Garrison Coleman, Ricky Cleland, and Coey Norman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Brown, Cheryl Peterson Barron, Eddie Thomas, Don Powell, Danny Rewis and Maria Brown.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
