On September 19, investigators with the Safety Fire Commissioner’s Office charged Kelly Durrell Blanton, 50, of Surrency, Georgia, with 1 Count of First Degree Arson. The charge stems from his alleged involvement in setting fire to a camper trailer on September 16.
“The camper, located at 27 Crosby Street in Surrency, Georgia, suffered moderate interior damage from the fire,” said Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King. “Mr. Blanton is currently in Appling County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.”
Blanton was already in jail at the time he was charged. He was arrested by the Appling County Sheriff’s Office on September 18 for an unrelated incident before being charged with First Degree Arson on September 19. Investigators with the Safety Fire Commissioner’s Office are assisting the Appling County Sheriff’s Office with this investigation.
First Degree Arson is a felony punishable by a fine of no more than $50,000 or by a prison term between one and twenty years, or both.
