GBI Charges Former Deputy Clerk of Tattnall County Tax Commissioner's Office with Theft

PRESS RELEASE
Reidsville, GA – On Tuesday, October 10, 2017, Amy Smith Meeks, 46, of Reidsville was arrested and charged with felony theft by taking. Meeks turned herself in to the Tattnall County Sheriff Office on Tuesday afternoon.
In April 2017, the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation conduct an investigation into funds missing from the Tattnall County Tax Commissioner’s Office.  Tattnall County Tax Commissioner, Dale Dutton, reported the missing money and requested a criminal investigation.
The investigation revealed that Meeks, who was the former Deputy Clerk of the Tattnall County Tax Commissioner’s Office, stole approximately $103,000.
