Gail Dixon and Allison Flory of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office attended the Georgia Sheriff’s Association Administrative Staff Conference in Savannah. Sheriff Mark Melton, Chief Deputy Gene Davis, Chief Investigator Jerry Baxley, Lt. Kenny Wright, and 911 Director Henry Alderman attended the Georgia 2030 luncheon sponsored by the Baxley-Appling County Chamber of Commerce. Sheriff Melton, Chief Deputy Davis, Chief Investigator Baxley, and Lt. Wright also attended the 5th Annual Salute to Georgia Sheriff’s sponsored by the Georgia Sheriff’s Association. Gary Horton, Youth Pastor of Big Oaks Church of God, was the ACSO Chaplin for the week.
For the seven-day period of September 15, 2017 through September 21, 2017, the Appling County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) provided the following services:
Deputies/Investigators, wrote 15 citations, made 22 arrests, issued 9 warnings, performed 14 Sex Offender Compliance Verifications, served 28 criminal, and 26 civil papers for various courts, completed 25 incident reports, and provided security for State Court. There were nine (9) vehicle crashes worked by deputies, with assists from the Georgia State Patrol. Deputies patrolled 6,890 miles for the period. The Sheriff’s Office considered it an honor to provide seven (7) funeral escort throughout the week. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office initiated nine (9) new criminal investigations and completed or closed five (5).
The Appling County Detention Center provided protection for our citizens by safely housing an average of 98 inmates during the current period. Jailers completed 27 new inmate intakes and processed 25 inmate releases, which includes inmates from other counties that request our assistance in housing their inmates. The medical unit provided 94 medical checks for the week and food service served 2128 meals. We continue to provide one outside detail that maintains the grounds of most county facilities.
Our 911 Emergency Call Center Dispatchers received and dispatched 760 calls for service, of which 197 were emergency calls directly to 911. These numbers do not include routine communications between dispatch and units nor does it include the normal calls for training and drills.
