ATLANTA, GA –  As conditions begin to return to normal in the wake of Irma, Georgia DOT announced this afternoon that both of the state’s cable stayed bridges near the coast – the Talmadge Bridge at Savannah and the Sidney Lanier Bridge near Brunswick – are back open to traffic following thorough inspections. The public is still encouraged to limit travel during the nighttime hours in the heavily affected areas due to debris from the storm. The Talmadge Bridge reopened at 2:00pm today and the Lanier Bridge reopened at 4:30 p.m.

All day across the state, 22 bridge inspection teams have been busy conducting extensive inspections to ensure the safety of Georgia’s bridges, with 10 teams working in South Georgia alone. These teams are part of the more than 1,000 Georgia DOT personnel deployed across the state clearing trees and debris, removing road blockages and repairing damaged traffic signals.
