Deputy Cody Leggett and Deputy Mark Varnadore of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office are attending Advanced Traffic Law in Forsyth this week. Five (5) new members of the ACSO Search and Rescue Team completed their first level of dive training this past weekend at Blue Grotto in Willison, FL. Instructor Mike Flory was assisted by Stan Harris, Susie Mason, and Jailer, Chris Saunders. ACSO staff attended the Chamber of Commerce sponsored ribbon cutting, and the Appling County Pirate Football Meet and Greet. Sheriff Melton also spoke at the Appling County Touchdown Club Meeting. Detective Stacy Wilkerson attended a federal probation meeting at the U. S. Attorney’s Office at the Richard B. Russell Federal Building in Atlanta. Pastor James Futch, of St. John Church of Christ, was the ACSO Chaplin for the week.
For the seven-day period of August 4, 2017 through August 10, 2017, the Appling County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) provided the following services:
Deputies/Investigators, wrote 26 citations, made 9 arrests, issued 17 warnings, performed 39 Sex Offender Compliance Verifications, served 23 criminal and 15 civil papers for various courts, completed 31 incident reports, and provided security for Superior, Criminal, Civil Court and Civil Jury Trial, Juvenile Court, and Grand Jury. There were nine (9) vehicle crashes worked by deputies, with assists from the Georgia State Patrol. Deputies patrolled 6,779 miles for the period. The Sheriff’s Office considered it an honor to provide three (3) funeral escort throughout the week. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office initiated five (5) new criminal investigations and completed or closed three (3).
The Appling County Detention Center provided protection for our citizens by safely housing an average of 89 inmates during the current period. Jailers completed 19 new inmate intakes and processed 28 inmate releases, which includes inmates from other counties that request our assistance in housing their inmates. The medical unit provided 103 medical checks for the week and food service served 1,929 meals. We continue to provide one outside detail that maintains the grounds of most county facilities.
Our 911 Emergency Call Center Dispatchers received and dispatched 765 calls for service, of which 226 were emergency calls directly to 911. These numbers do not include routine communications between dispatch and units nor does it include the normal calls for training and drills.
