On August 21, 2017, the United States of America will experience an “Eclipse of the Sun”. This is an event that rarely occurs and the last occurrences visible from Georgia were on March 7, 1970 and May 28, 1900. After 2017, the next two total solar eclipses are expected to occur on August 12, 2045 and March 30, 2052.
Appling County School System will be open and utilize this historical moment to educate our students. Prior to this event, all schools will be discussing the eclipse and we encourage you as parents to communicate this topic with your child as well to enhance their learning experience.
Safety Eyeglass Wear will be available from NASA which contains the correct transmission requirements of ISO 12312-2 for viewing the eclipse. The peak time of the eclipse for Appling will occur during our regular dismissal; therefore, dismissal has been delayed in Appling County based on the schedule listed below:
