US 1 Bypass construction requires US 1 detour starting July 8

WHAT:          Contractors for Georgia DOT will be installing a US 1 detour on Tuesday, July 8 in Toombs County. This detour with new stop conditions will stay in place for the duration of the staged construction of the US 1 Bypass Project with expected completion in the second quarter of 2026.

The detour routes will be signed as follows:

US 1 Northbound
Traffic will  detour onto the new southbound lanes of US 1 Bypass then stop at new US 1 Connector. Motorists will turn right onto US 1 Connector and stop at the US 1 intersection then turn left where the detour ends on the existing US 1 heading toward Lyons.

US 1 Southbound
Traffic will stop on US 1 at the new US 1 Connector intersection then turn right. Traffic continues on the connector then stops at the US 1 Bypass. Traffic will turn left on the bypass heading southbound toward Baxley connecting to the existing US 1 where the detour ends.

WHEN:        Tuesday, July 8, weather permitting.

WHERE:     US 1/State Route (SR) 4 detours onto US 1 Bypass and US 1 Connector in Toombs County between the Cities of Lyons and Baxley.

ADVISORY: This is a WORK ZONE and extreme caution is necessary.  Motorists are advised to reduce speeds as they travel through this construction work zone. Message signs, barrels and/or cones will be utilized to alert the public of the upcoming changes.
