Herman Lamar Burkhalter

Herman Lamar Burkhalter, age 74, of Baxley, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.

Mr. Burkhalter was born December 3, 1948 in Telfair County to the late John D. Burkhalter and Vauneda Prickett Baggett.  Mr. Burkhalter was a resident of Davis Landing for over 30 years and attended Riverside Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Vietnam War and was a recipient of two Purple Heart. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Appling County War Veterans. He was preceded in death by his son, J. George Burkhalter, sister, Mary Herrington Armstrong and brothers, James Burkhalter, Daniel “Ted” Burkhalter, and Wendell Burkhalter.

Survivors include his daughter Anita Williamson of Panama City Beach, Florida; granddaughters, Harley (Ladson) Selph of Alamo and Cassie Williamson of Statesboro; grandson, Cane Burkhalter of Tarrytown; great grandson, Boone Selph of Alamo; sister, Joyce Burkhalter Stafford of Alamo; brothers, Henry (Jennifer) Herrington of California, and Robert Earl (Shelia) Herrington of Alamo. Several nieces and nephews and his family at Davis Landing also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Riverside Baptist Church with Rev. Justin McLellan officiating and a eulogy by Lee Jones.

Interment will follow in Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors.

Active pallbearers will be Brad Carter, Mark Shumans, Michael Shumans, Wren Johnson, Jamie Johnson, and Josh Stone.

Honorary pallbearers will be all friends in attendance.

Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
