Wilton Lewis Carter – 76

Wilton Lewis Carter, age 76, of Baxley died Sunday, February 28, 2021 at his residence under the care of Georgia Hospice.

Mr. Carter was born October 17, 1944 in Baxley to the late William Lewis Carter and the late Lydia Griffin Carter. He graduated from Appling County High School in 1962, was an ironworker and was a member of Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eleven siblings. Mr. Carter was a humble and devoted family man who had a heart of gold and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He made everyone feel welcome in his home and was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Sylvia Carter of Baxley; daughters and sons-in-law Kimberli & Rusty Knight of Shacklefords, VA and Tonya & Corey Merritt of Nicholls; son and daughter-in-law, Todd & Robbin Carter of Baxley; sister, Betty Jane (Rev. Ellis) Moore of Evans; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and special nieces, Linda Thurman, Joann Hickox, and Pat Johnson also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Active Pallbearers will be Chance Carter, Christopher Shiver, Landon Boatright, Joshua Hatten, Robyn Williams and Brian Thorp.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Randy Spell, Lanette Holmes, Dr. Orlando Fernando, Wendell & Elizabeth Crosby, Harry Griffin, Debbie Branch, Carolyn McMillan, Richard Griffin, Mary Ellen Smith, Sarah Boatright, Janie Cummings and Keven Thorp.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.

All those in attendance are asked to abide by COVID-19 precautions by social distancing and wearing a mask.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
