***Revised 4/22/20 Final Grading Procedures for the 2019-2020 School Year***
ACHS Students, Parents and Guardians,
I want to thank you for your patience and understanding during this most difficult time that we all are experiencing. I know you were not prepared for this crisis, and we certainly were not as a high school. I want to commend our staff that in a day’s notice they began to develop online instruction for our students, and have continued to provide meaningful instructional opportunities using Google Classroom, USA Test Prep, Delta Math, OdysseyWare and etc. The goal is to provide every opportunity for our students to earn their course credits.
Below you will find the closeout procedures for student grades for the second semester of the FY 2020. This change in the way grades are normally assigned is due to the COVID-19 Pandemic’s early closing of the school year. This is the combined thoughts from the members of the ACHS Leadership Team and input from the respective department members.
Students will have until April 29, 2020, to make-up any missed work that was assigned prior to March 13, 2020. They must check their Infinite Campus student portal and connect with their teachers via email, REMIND, or Google classroom. All Google classroom codes are posted on the ACHS website.
On April 29, 2020, teachers will go into Infinite Campus and use the sliding scale below to post grades for the second semester based on the InProgress Grade on April 30, 2020. They will be used for HOPE GPA for college use and honors-level courses will count toward the rigor requirement.
The following is an update to the previously posted grading procedures:
In an effort not to create any additional stress for our students or to penalize them in any way, their grades earned this semester will count towards a student’s honor graduate status and class rank.
95 or > = 100
90-94 = 95
85-89 = 90
80-84 = 85
75-79 = 80
70-74 = 75
60-69 = 70
0-59 = 65
Students with a grade of 65 on April 30 will be given an opportunity to complete additional pre-assigned work to reach a 70 average until May 15, 2020. ACHS faculty will be attempting to make parent/student contact through phone, email, REMIND, and Google classroom regarding these opportunities.
Students who DO take advantage of this opportunity and satisfactorily complete the assigned work will have their grade in IC changed from 65 to 70 by May 15, 2020.
Students who DO NOT complete the required previously assigned work to reach a 70 average will have the following option available:
1. Retake the course during the FY 2021 school year in credit recovery.
Only students who fall between the grade range of 65-69 will be able to complete additional pre-assigned work to improve their grade after April 29, 2020.
For questions or concerns please contact the individual course teacher, the high school guidance counseling department, or an administrator. You may leave me a direct message by dialing 912-367-8610 then the #420.
Sincerely,
Gene A. Starr, Jr.
