Georgia State Patrol Releases Information on Fatal Highway 341 Crash

According to the Georgia State Patrol:
On the morning of Monday, February 25th at approximately 10:44 am, a white 1994 GMC Conventional semi-truck (Vehicle #1) was traveling east on Highway 341/GA 27 in the right eastbound lane towing a trailer containing pine straw. A white 2009 Autocar Xpeditor trash truck (Vehicle #2) was stopped in the eastbound right lane with flashing lights activated, attempting to dump a trash can. Vehicle #1 struck the rear of Vehicle #2 with the front of Vehicle #1. The area of impact was 3 feet 11 inches from the south fog line of GA 27 and 25 feet west from the yellow center line of West Park Drive.
After impact, Vehicle #1 traveled east and its right rear tire came to final rest 15 feet 1 inch from the eastbound yellow center line. The right front tire of Vehicle #1 came to final rest 100 feet east of the area of impact. Vehicle #1’s front right trailer tire came to final rest 9 feet 9 inches from the south fog line. The right rear trailer tire came to final rest 12 feet 1 inch from the south fog line of GA 27. The rear of Vehicle #1’s trailer came to final rest 68 feet 1 inch east from the area of impact.
After impact, Vehicle #2 traveled east and rotated clockwise before it came to final rest 9 feet 7 inches from the south fog line, in the south ditch of GA 27. The right rear tire of Vehicle #2 came to final rest 95 feet 1 inch east of the area of impact.
The driver of Vehicle #1, Matthew Stephen Kauger died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of Vehicle #2, Michael Cody Dixon, was hospitalized as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
