ATLANTA – To ease Super Bowl traffic congestion in and around metro Atlanta, Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is restricting construction-related lane closures on interstate highways from 12 a.m. Friday, January 25 to 5 a.m. Tuesday, February 5.
“As people visit our great state and the City of Atlanta for Super Bowl 53, we anticipate heavy traffic,” said Georgia DOT State Construction Engineer John D. Hancock. “For easier and safer travel we are limiting construction and associated lane closures.”
Heavy traffic is also expected at various metro Atlanta venues, therefore, there will be no lane closures on projects inside the perimeter and on interstates I-285, I-85 between Commerce Georgia and Atlanta, I-985 between Gainesville and Atlanta and I-75 from South Marietta Parkway to I-85.
The Transform I-285/SR 400 project will continue to have lane closures for various work leading up to Friday, February 1. Lane closures for this project will be restricted between from 12 a.m. Friday, February 1 to 5 a.m. Tuesday, February 5.
The Department reminds travelers to exercise caution while driving in metro Atlanta as there will be an influx of pedestrian traffic.  Also, incident management or emergency, maintenance-related lane closures could become necessary at any time on any interstate or state route. For up-to-date information about travel conditions on Georgia’s interstates and state routes, call 511 or visit www.511ga.org before heading out.
