On December 30th at approximately 2:40 am, Baxley authorities were contacted in regard to a shooting.
Police responded to Key West Inn. The victim of the shooting, Dennis Bryant, was found deceased. He had apparently been attacked in the parking lot while near his vehicle by Rocky Wheeler and Rhett Wheeler. During the attack, Bryant was fatally shot.
Rocky Wheeler and Rhett Wheeler were taken into police custody, as were four others who were at the scene: Louis Torres, Gabrielle Labaco, Catherine Zipperer, and Daisy Lott. Torres was also shot during the altercation and is being treated for a non-life threatening injury treated in Savannah.
This case is being handled by the Baxley Police Department in conjunction with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
