On November 26, 2018, the Bacon County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) was dispatched to “The Forks 1&23” in regards to a suspicious vehicle riding around the parking lot. Units made contact with the vehicle and discovered the vehicle was reported stolen out of South Carolina.
Upon units making contact with the driver, the driver fled from the location at a high rate of speed which caused the driver to strike an officer. Officers pursued the vehicle to a wooded area, off of Edgar Varnadore Rd, where the driver fled on foot.
The Alma Police Department, BCSO, and Ware State Canine Unit entered the wooded area and arrested Joseph Allen Tuten (39 of Lexington, South Carolina) after locating Tuten approximately 35 feet up in a tree. Tuten was arrested without incident and is facing charges for aggravated assault, theft by taking motor vehicle, felony fleeing, and eluding law enforcement along with multiple traffic citations. Tuten was also a fugitive from justice out of South Carolina.
