BI-WEEKLY REPORT
Hazard Planning Meeting October 25 was a big day at the Appling County Sheriff’s Office. Wal-Mart Pharmacy Manager, Sarah Swinson, was on site to provide Flu Shots, Pneumonia Vaccines and Tetanus Shots for ACSO employees. The Quarterly Employee Luncheon and staff meeting was held including good food, recognition of Employee of the Quarter Dela Bizzell, and door prizes. Bethel Freewill Baptist Church donated gift cards to be included in the door prizes as a show of appreciation for the ACSO. The ACSO Law Enforcement Explorer Post had a new member sign up night with 16 new members enrolling in the program. Sergeant Joey Coleman and K-9 Cash visited the Appling County Elementary School Fourth and Fifth graders for a drug dog search demonstration. Deputy Daniel Williamson was invited to the Appling County Head Start Program to share a story a visit with the kids. Sheriff Melton attended the Bicentennial Celebration Planning Meeting regarding final preparations for the festival. Sheriff Melton also attended the Appling County Middle School Pep Rally to speak on red ribbon week and making good choices. The ACSO provided props for the Judgement House Production at Spring Branch Baptist Church. The staff of the ACSO had a great time giving out candy at the annual Halloween Festivities. Captain Adam Bell attended the Appling Probation Meeting at the District Attorney’s office. Chief Deputy Davis spoke with staff of the VFW regarding security issues for the club. Chris Wilson of Thankful New Jersey Church and Brian Gill of Spring Branch Baptist Church were the Chaplains for two weeks.
During the period of October 19 through November 1, the ACSO provided the following services:
Deputies and Investigators made 16 arrests, issued 154 warnings, wrote 41 citations, served 29 Criminal and 16 Civil papers for various courts, completed 61 incident reports, provided security for Grand Jury, Superior, State, and Juvenile Courts. Deputies performed 21 community business and residence courtesy checks. K-9 officers performed 18 drug searches. There were 34 vehicle crashes worked by deputies, with assists from the Georgia State Patrol. Deputies patrolled 13,998 miles for the period. The Sheriff’s Office considered it an honor to provide six (6) funeral escorts. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office initiated four (4) new criminal investigations.
The Appling County Detention Center provided protection for our citizens by safely housing an average of 77 inmates during the current period. Jailers completed 42 new inmate intakes and processed 47 inmate releases, which includes inmates from other counties that request our assistance in housing their inmates. The medical unit provided 106 medical checks for the weeks and food service served 3361 meals. We continue to provide one outside detail that maintains the grounds of most county facilities.
Our 911 Emergency Call Center Dispatchers received and dispatched 1697 calls for service, of which 533 were emergency calls directly to 911. These numbers do not include routine communications between dispatch and units nor does it include the normal calls for training and drills.
