Sheriff Mark Melton and staff hope everyone enjoyed a safe and happy Father’s Day.  Chief Investigator Jeff Evans attended Food Stamp Fraud Training for information on how our food stamp system is being abused.  Sheriff Melton attended Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee in preparation for possible hazards like hurricanes, dangerous spills, etc.  The ACSO Firearms Training for qualification with all issued weapons makeup date was held this week. The quarterly ACSO safety inspection was also held this week.  This inspection includes buildings, grounds, and vehicles. The ACSO welcomed two (2) new members to the team, Deputy Michael Byrd and Deputy Michael Williamson. Pastor Alfred Butler, of New Life Ministries, was chaplain for the week.
For the week of June 15, 2018 through June 21, 2018, the Appling County Office (ACSO) provided the following services:
Deputies and Investigators made four (4) arrests, issued 41 warnings, wrote 19 citations, served 13 Criminal and 18 Civil papers for various courts, completed 26 incident reports, verified 14 sex offender addresses and provided security for Superior and Juvenile Courts.   K-9 officers performed four (4) drug search. There were nine (9) vehicle crashes worked by deputies, with assists from the Georgia State Patrol. Deputies patrolled 6,703 miles for the period. The Sheriff’s Office considered it an honor to provide two (2) funeral escort throughout the week.  Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office initiated 7 new criminal investigations and closed one (1).
The Appling County Detention Center provided protection for our citizens by safely housing an average of 86 inmates during the current period.  Jailers completed 28 new inmate intakes and processed 22 inmate releases, which includes inmates from other counties that request our assistance in housing their inmates.  The medical unit provided 70 medical checks for the weeks and food service served 1871 meals. We continue to provide one outside detail that maintains the grounds of most county facilities.
Our 911 Emergency Call Center Dispatchers received and dispatched 676 calls for service, of which 274 were emergency calls directly to 911.  These numbers do not include routine communications between dispatch and units nor does it include the normal calls for training and drills.
