Members of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office staff attended the Defensive Driving Class offered by the Appling County Commissioners. This class benefits the ACSO by having employees with improved driving skills, and also benefits the employee by reducing the cost of their insurance. A portion of the ACSO deputies attended Firearms Training for qualification with all issued weapons. The remaining deputies will attend the class at a later date. Law Enforcement Explorer Post 560 was given insight on the role of the District Attorney’s office by Assistant District Attorney Marilyn Bennett. Javon Anderson, Youth Minister for Baxley Church of God, was chaplain for the week.
For the week of June 8, 2018 through June 14, 2018, the Appling County Office (ACSO) provided the following services:
Deputies and Investigators made five (5) arrests, issued 19 warnings, wrote 10 citations, served 12 Criminal and 12 Civil papers for various courts, completed 32 incident reports and provided security for Superior and Juvenile Courts. K-9 officers performed one (1) drug search with one (1). There were six (6) vehicle crashes worked by deputies, with assists from the Georgia State Patrol. Deputies patrolled 8,168 miles for the period. The Sheriff’s Office considered it an honor to provide four (4) funeral escort throughout the week. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office initiated 13 new criminal investigations and closed 10.
The Appling County Detention Center provided protection for our citizens by safely housing an average of 87 inmates during the current period. Jailers completed 22 new inmate intakes and processed 30 inmate releases, which includes inmates from other counties that request our assistance in housing their inmates. The medical unit provided 62 medical checks for the weeks and food service served 1884 meals. We continue to provide one outside detail that maintains the grounds of most county facilities.
Our 911 Emergency Call Center Dispatchers received and dispatched 818 calls for service, of which 221 were emergency calls directly to 911. These numbers do not include routine communications between dispatch and units nor does it include the normal calls for training and drills.
