Appling County Sheriff's Report (5/25/18 – 5/31/18)

WEEKLY REPORT
Sheriff Melton was the guest speaker for the Altamaha Elementary School Fifth Grade Graduation.  Investigator Stacy Wilkerson attended LeadsOnLine Training for the week in Orlando, FL. LeadsOnLine is a technology service that helps law enforcement catch criminals while helping businesses reduce the hassles of reporting. Chief Deputy Gene Davis taught a Home and Gun Safety Class for the First Baptist Church of Baxley.  Thursday evening was the start for the three (3) day concentrated safety patrol in Appling County including Appling County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Georgia State Patrol Troopers, and Dept. of Natural Resources Officers. The patrol resulted in 29 tickets, 119 warnings, and six (6) arrests (including two (2) felonies) by the ACSO, 14 Tickets, 62 Warnings, and eight (8) Arrests (including two (2) DUIs) by the GSP for the three (3) day period. Jordan Ball, Youth Pastor for Baxley Church of God was chaplain for the week.
For the week of May 25, 2018 through May 31, 2018, the Appling County Office (ACSO) provided the following services:  
Deputies and Investigators made nine (9) arrests, issued 46 warnings, wrote 53 citations, served 15 Criminal and three (3) Civil papers for various courts, completed 33 incident reports and provided security for both State and Juvenile Court as well as the Appling County High School Graduation Ceremony.   K-9 officers performed 10 drug searches. There were 14 vehicle crashes worked by deputies, with assists from the Georgia State Patrol. Deputies patrolled 5,868 miles for the period. The Sheriff’s Office considered it an honor to provide five (5) funeral escort throughout the week. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office initiated Two (2) new criminal investigations.  
The Appling County Detention Center provided protection for our citizens by safely housing an average of 80 inmates during the current period.  Jailers completed 28 new inmate intakes and processed 25 inmate releases, which includes inmates from other counties that request our assistance in housing their inmates.  The medical unit provided 60 medical checks for the weeks and food service served 1668 meals. We continue to provide one outside detail that maintains the grounds of most county facilities.
Our 911 Emergency Call Center Dispatchers received and dispatched 732 calls for service, of which 277 were emergency calls directly to 911.  These numbers do not include routine communications between dispatch and units nor does it include the normal calls for training and drills.
