During the month of May, Appling County Elementary School recognized career events. Students in each grade had an opportunity to hear from some of our local professionals and take a field trip to visit several locations throughout our county. Community speakers came to the school on May 5th to speak to third grade students. Fourth grade students visited County Plant Farm Company and the City Water Park. Fifth Grade students toured the County Courthouse, Courthouse Annex, Magistrate Court, the City Water Park and Community Bank. Fourth grade students also had the opportunity to tour the Appling County High School STEM program and observe their older peers at work completing tasks that prepare them for the work-force in their assigned classes. These events throughout the month were designed for third, fourth, and fifth grade students to become more aware of various careers that take place in our community. These events help students make the connection between the value of school and the role it plays in their future career.
Career Month was an exciting event and a huge success. There were many different professions represented. Community speakers discussed many aspects of their occupation as well as the type of education and training that is needed to be qualified for their positions. The students were well involved by asking questions and interacting with the speakers. The students, as well as the teachers, received very useful information.
The administration, faculty and staff at Appling County Elementary School would like to extend a very special thank you to all of the community members who took their valuable time to share with our students about their professions. They are as follows: Attorney at Law Terry Turner, Probate Judge; Judge Ronnie Lewis, Chief Magistrate Court Judge; Mrs. Andrea Bass, Deputy Magistrate Court Judge; Mr. Hansel Williams, Magistrate Court Constable; Mr. Reid Lovett, City Manager; Mr. Lee Lewis, County Manager; Mrs. Janine Hunter, Community Bank, Appling County High School Administration, Faculty, Staff and students, Ms. Crystal Godfrey, Georgia Power, Mrs. Jennifer Murphy, Telehealth.
