Friday, April 20, was the Quarterly Employee Luncheon and full staff meeting at the ACSO. Knicole Lee and Crew of Southern Peaches Health Services provided the lunch and door prizes. Lisa Theus was awarded Employee of the Quarter. Sheriff Mark Melton was guest speaker at the 24/7 House Day of Grace Fundraiser. The Administrative Staff was treated to lunch for Administrative Professionals Day by Chief Deputy Gene Davis in recognition of their hard work at the ACSO. Law Enforcement Post 560 learned about crash site investigation, dangers of texting and driving, and how speed kills. The speaker was Georgia State Patrol Helena Post Commander, Sergeant Eric Wilkes. The ACSO offered another successful Handgun Safety Class taught by Sheriff Melton, Chief Deputy Gene Davis, Superintendent Linton Deloach and Deputy Keith Mack. Children’s Pastor David Harris of Baxley Church of God was Chaplin for the week.
For the week of April 20, 2018 through April 26, 2018, the Appling County Office (ACSO) provided the following services:
Deputies/Investigators, wrote 33 citations, made 15 arrests, issued 56 warnings, served 29 Criminal and 22 Civil papers for various courts, completed 23 incident reports, performed seven (7) Sex Offender Verifications, and provided security for Juvenile and Superior Courts. There were three (3) vehicle crash worked by deputies, with assists from the Georgia State Patrol. Deputies patrolled 6,168 miles for the period. The Sheriff’s Office considered it an honor to provide three (3) funeral escort throughout the week. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office initiated 17 new criminal investigations and closed eight (8) investigations.
The Appling County Detention Center provided protection for our citizens by safely housing an average of 75 inmates during the current period. Jailers completed 21 new inmate intakes and processed 17 inmate releases, which includes inmates from other counties that request our assistance in housing their inmates. The medical unit provided 69 medical checks for the weeks and food service served 1609 meals. We continue to provide one outside detail that maintains the grounds of most county facilities.
Our 911 Emergency Call Center Dispatchers received and dispatched 633 calls for service, of which 227 were emergency calls directly to 911. These numbers do not include routine communications between dispatch and units nor does it include the normal calls for training and drills.
