Appling County Elementary School celebrated Read Across America and Dr. Seuss Week during the week of February 26 through March 2. A different theme was celebrated each day.Monday was “Mixed Up Monday,” and everyone wore mismatched clothes. Tuesday was “Top Hat Tuesday,” and everyone wore their favorite hat. On “Wacky Wednesday” there were a lot of students and faculty members sporting their craziest socks! “Cat Day Thursday” saw many Cat in the Hat look-alikes roaming the hallways. Friday was “Favorite Thing Friday.” Everyone dressed as their favorite Dr. Seuss character. There were a lot of Grinches, Cindy Lou Whos, Thing 1 and Thing 2s, and Cat in the Hats! The Cat in the Hat visited the Media Center on Friday and read to several classes. The classes enjoyed the Dr. Seuss books and having their pictures made with The Cat in the Hat. A trivia question was announced each day. Students and faculty placed their answers in containers located in the Media Center. The winners of the trivia contest were Cory Cray, Will Tharpe, Andy Vasquez, Giovanni Bautista, Nil Patel, Mrs. Erika Boatright, Mrs. Lana Clark, Mrs. Sonya Highsmith, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Campbell, and Mrs. Carla Livingston. They each received a DQ gift card and Dr. Seuss items. Everyone enjoyed celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday.
