Appling County Sheriff’s Office Staff attended the First Responder Appreciation luncheon sponsored by the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church. Thank you to the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church, for your support and consideration. Sheriff Melton attended the annual Georgia Sheriffs Convention in Atlanta. Chief Deputy Gene Davis attended the monthly meeting og the Coastal Area Traffic Enforcement Network (C.A.T.E.N). Chief Davis taught a segment on Offender De-escalation. The February C.A.T.E.N. meeting will be held in Appling County and hosted by Chief Davis and the ACSO. Chief Davis, Lt. Kenny Wright, and other ACSO staff members attended the Church Security Training provided by Swain Insurance which addressed church insurance issues. Sheriff Melton and Chief Davis met with the contractor and general manager for the upcoming detention center expansion project. The ACSO Law Enforcement Post 560 meeting featured EMS Director Jimmy Twiggs. Director Twiggs spoke to the group on CPR Techniques and AED usage. Youth Pastor Tim Carlson, of Celebration Church led our devotion for the week.
For the week of January 19, 2018 through January 25, 2018, the Appling County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) provided the following services:
Deputies/Investigators, wrote 18 citations, made 15 arrests, issued 30 warnings, served 15 Criminal and 19 Civil papers for various courts, completed 18 incident reports, and completed seven (7) Sex Offender verifications. There were three (3) vehicle crashes worked by deputies, with assists from the Georgia State Patrol. Deputies patrolled 6181 miles for the period. The Sheriff’s Office considered it an honor to provide one (1) funeral escort throughout the week. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office initiated six (6) new criminal investigations and closed one (1).
The Appling County Detention Center provided protection for our citizens by safely housing an average of 87 inmates during the current period. Jailers completed 20 new inmate intakes and processed 26 inmate releases, which includes inmates from other counties that request our assistance in housing their inmates. The medical unit provided 55 medical checks for the weeks and food service served 1863 meals. We continue to provide one outside detail that maintains the grounds of most county facilities.
Our 911 Emergency Call Center Dispatchers received and dispatched 645 calls for service, of which 173 were emergency calls directly to 911. These numbers do not include routine communications between dispatch and units nor does it include the normal calls for training and drills.
