PRESS RELEASE
On Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at approximately 17:25 hrs., the Appling County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on G. W. Turner Road, in reference to a brush fire and male subject that was unresponsive and not breathing. Deputies located the individual who had received extensive burns to his body. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene by Appling County Deputy Coroner Henry Jones. The body, believed to be Herbert Rentz, age 89 of 204 G. W. Turner Road, Baxley, GA, has been sent to the GBI Crime Lab in Savannah for positive identification and autopsy.
