YOUR SHERIFF’S OFFICE, YOUR COMMUNITY
The Appling County Sheriff’s Office helped bring in the new year with plenty of memorable experiences.  A double patrol was provided for New Year’s Eve which was thankfully safe and quiet.  The ACSO participated in the snow and ice preparations. City, County, and private businesses were closed due to the hazardous weather and driving conditions.  Sheriff Mark Melton provided security for the Appling County Commissioners Meeting.  Sheriff Melton gave an update on the ACSO activities which included the beginning of quarterly meetings with the first responder organizations.  He also announced the first meeting of the ACSO Law Enforcement Post 560, and invited everyone to the Community-wide Prayer Meeting to be held Monday, January 8, at 7:00 pm, at the Courthouse Annex.  Pastor Stephen Stadum, of Zion Church of God was Chaplin for the week.
For the week of December 29, 2017 through January 4, 2018, the Appling County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) provided the following services:
Deputies/Investigators, wrote 25 citations, made nine (9) arrests, issued 14 warnings, served 21 Criminal and 13 Civil papers for various courts, completed 16 incident reports, and provided security for Superior and Juvenile Court.   There were 26 vehicle crashes worked by deputies, with assists from the Georgia State Patrol. Deputies patrolled 6,239 miles for the period. The Sheriff’s Office considered it an honor to provide three (3) funeral escort throughout the week.  Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office initiated four (4) new criminal investigations.
The Appling County Detention Center provided protection for our citizens by safely housing an average of 81 inmates during the current period.  Jailers completed 18 new inmate intakes and processed 10 inmate releases, which includes inmates from other counties that request our assistance in housing their inmates.  The medical unit provided 62 medical checks for the weeks and food service served 1758 meals.  We continue to provide one outside detail that maintains the grounds of most county facilities.
Our 911 Emergency Call Center Dispatchers received and dispatched 580 calls for service, of which 223 were emergency calls directly to 911.  These numbers do not include routine communications between dispatch and units nor does it include the normal calls for training and drills.
