Lt. Kenny Wright of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office was one of the special guests at the 2017 Black Heritage Reunion. Lt. Wright welcomed those attending the event, along with County Commission Chairman Lewis Parker and County Commissioner Theodore Wilkerson.  Tuesday, July 25, Investigator Robert Eunice participated in Camp What Ever You Endeavor.  The theme for the week-long camp was “CSI”; Investigator Eunice provided a mock crime scene for the youth with information on crime scene investigation and a demonstration  lifting fingerprints.  Sheriff Mark Melton, Pastor Steven Statum, and Pastor Ronnie Rentz, attended the Region 9 Chaplins Meeting held Thursday, July 27, in Ludowici.  The guest speaker for the event was past Sheriff, Benny Deloach.  Sheriff Melton and Mayor Steve Rigdon welcomed both locals and visitors attending the Congress of Christian Education. The event was hosted by the First African Baptist Church in Baxley.  Pastor Ben Defore, of Asbury United Methodist Church, was the ACSO Chaplin for the week.
For the seven-day period of July 21, 2017 through July 27, 2017, the Appling County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) provided the following services:
Deputies/Investigators, wrote 70 citations, made 14 arrests, issued 25 warnings, performed 18 Sex Offender Compliance Verifications, served 17 criminal and eight (8) civil papers for various courts, completed 26 incident reports, and provided security for State Court and Juvenile Court.   There were seven (7) vehicle crashes worked by deputies, with assists from the Georgia State Patrol. Deputies patrolled 11,270 miles for the period. The Sheriff’s Office considered it an honor to provide one (1) funeral escort throughout the week.  Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office initiated six (6) new criminal investigations and completed/closed one (1) current case.
The Appling County Detention Center provided protection for our citizens by housing an average of 90 inmates during the current period.  The ACDC had a medical emergency call which resulted in the death of an inmate.  Sheriff Melton requested the GBI investigate the incident.  The investigation is in its preliminary stage.  The Jailers completed 31 new inmate intakes and processed 24 inmate releases, which includes inmates from other counties that request our assistance in housing their inmates.  The medical unit provided 82 medical checks for the week and food service served 1,914 meals.  We continue to provide one outside detail that maintains the grounds of most county facilities.
Our 911 Emergency Call Center Dispatchers received and dispatched 809 calls for service, of which 267 were emergency calls directly to 911.  These numbers do not include routine communications between dispatch and units nor does it include the normal calls for training and drills.
