At the beginning of May, Appling County Elementary School recognized Career Week. Students in each grade level had an opportunity to hear from some of our local professionals and take a field trip to visit several locations throughout our County. Mr. Bruce Rentz, from Satilla REMC, brought an exhibit to speak to third grade students about electricity. In addition, we also welcomed community speakers Jessica Stone-Lamb and Jennifer Murphy on May 1st and May 3rd to speak to third grade students. Fourth grade students visited County Plant Farm Company on May 5th. Fifth grade students toured the County Courthouse, Courthouse Annex, Magistrate Court, the City Water Park and Community Bank. Fourth grade students also had the opportunity to tour the Appling County High School STEM program and observe their older peers at work completing tasks that prepare them for the work-force in their assigned classes. This week-long event was designed to make third, fourth, and fifth grade students become more aware of various careers that take place in our community. This event helps students make the connection between the value of school and the role it plays in their future career.
Career Week was an exciting event and a huge success. There were many different professions represented. Community speakers discussed many aspects of their occupation as well as the type of education and training that is needed to be qualified for their positions. The students were involved by asking questions and interacting with the speakers. The students, as well as the teachers, were well informed of various career opportunities.
The administration, faculty and staff at Appling County Elementary School would like to extend a very special thank you to all of the community members who took their valuable time to share with our students about their professions.
