For the seven-day period of May 5, 2017 through May 11, 2017, the Appling County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) provided the following services:
Deputies/Investigators, wrote 22 citations, made 22 arrests which included four (4) drug arrests, issued 37 warnings, served 21 criminal and 12 civil papers for various courts, completed 22 incident reports, and worked security for one court session during the current week. There were six (6) vehicle crashes worked by deputies, with assists from the Georgia State Patrol. Deputies patrolled 9,386 miles for the period. The Sheriff’s Office considered it an honor to provide six (6) funeral escorts throughout the week. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office initiated three (3) new criminal investigations and completed/closed three (3) current cases.
The Appling County Jail provided protection for our citizens by safely housing an average of 63 inmates during the current period. Jailers completed 26 new inmate intakes and processed 23 inmate releases, which includes inmates from other counties that request our assistance in housing their inmates. The medical unit provided 72 medical checks for the week and food service served 1,344 meals. We continue to provide one outside detail that maintains the grounds of most county facilities.
Our 911 Emergency Call Center Dispatchers received and dispatched 656 calls for service, 177 of which were emergency calls directly to 911. These numbers do not include routine communications between dispatch and units nor does it include the normal calls for training and drills.
During the week, the ACSO hosted the first of two of its 5th grade C.H.A.M.P.S. Program Award Ceremonies and fun day at Cross Ties Ministries and led by Program Director Stacy Wilkerson. The ACSO assisted in the escort for the Walk for Jesus and attended the Baccalaureate Service for the Appling County Seniors. Sheriff Mark Melton attended the five (5) day NRA Patrol Instructor Rifle Class at Plant Vogtle Security Facility. Investigator Scottie Tanner attended the five (5) day Internet Protocol Camera Program at the Federal Law Enforcement Traciing Center (FLETC) in Brunswick. Law Enforcement Officers of the ACSO attended qualifying day on Tuesday, May 9. Sheriff Mark Melton, Jailer Tina Merced, and 911 Operator Della Bizzell, all participated in Career Day at the Altamaha Elementary School. Sheriff Melton also visited the Appling Head Start end of the year fun day, as well as the Appling County Primary School AR Carnival. Our Chaplin for the week was Pastor Aubrey Abbott of Bethel First United Methodist Church.
