Georgia Power is responding to calls for help through its mutual assistance network. Utilities in the Northeast are
bracing for a major winter weather event, and Georgia Power is providing crews and resources to help with power restoration following expected high winds and heavy snow in the region.
WHAT: Departing crews will leave from operating headquarters in various regions of the state, along with the company’s Mobile Command Center, from Atlanta. Please contact Georgia Power media relations to schedule an interview.
WHEN: Crews begin travel Monday, March 13, 2017 and typically stay one to two weeks, depending on needs of both the host and home utility.
WHERE: As of Monday morning, 200+ employees and contractors are preparing to depart, or have departed various locations across Georgia. Plans are to assist the electric utility serving the Brewster, New York area, and other areas affected by the storm.
The Edison Electric Institute honored Georgia Power earlier this year with its Emergency Recovery Award for extraordinary storm response efforts following Hurricane Matthew in Georgia and the company has earned the Emergency Assistance Award for deployments to assist distant utilities in recent years.
