Listen On Demand to MSJ “After the Show” here –> I recently got fitted for a new bra. It was at a bra boutique. Not a national bra chain. I couldn’t believe what size I was told I should be in. BUT – of course I put on THE size they suggested, and it’s the best fit I’ve ever had. EVER. No overspill, no riding up, no weird moving bands.
Once I got over the shock of my new size – I learned even more. Here goes:
When putting a bra ON – latch it low on your back. Most of the support IS in the band, and it should ride lowish. Also, get the girls IN the cup. Finally, bring forward breast tissue from the side INTO the cup. Who knew?!?!!
I also learned to NOT wear the same bra 2 days in a row. Maybe I DID know this, but I was an offender sometimes. Not now!
Bra Life Span – about 8 months. But you be the judge. After 8 months if the bra still feels very supportive then you’re good to go. But this is when a well-worn bra starts to lose its support.
Washing. We aren’t supposed to put bras in the washing machine – ever! (I guess maybe a sports bra works) But I now always hand wash my bras. Not roughly, gentle. There are lots of good lingerie washes available, even 1 that you just soak your lingerie in, no rinse required. The last thing I’ve learned is to lay them flat to dry OR hang evenly, from the middle. Don’t hang a bra from the end of the strap – it will mess up the shape.
There!! All this good stuff I’ve learned recently – wanted to pass it on!!! So much to know. Good luck. And most importantly – get a professional fitting. Your actual size may surprise you – but will make all the difference in the world.
