The Appling County Sheriff’s Office will host a basic handgun safety class this month. The class will be led by Sheriff elect Mark Melton and Superintendent Linton Deloach of the Department of Corrections as well as other certified firearms instructors.
There are two segments to the training. The first class is Thursday night, July 28, from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at the Appling County Sheriff’s Office. The second is Saturday morning, July 30, from 8:00 am until noon. The second class is being held at the Baxley Police Department’s shooting range.
There is a $25 fee for each student to cover ammo, targets, ear protection and other items that will be provided. Do not bring a gun to the first part of the class. You may bring a handgun to the second part of the class, but leave it secured and unloaded in your car. An instructor will retrieve it with you.
To attend, RSVP to Mark Melton at (912) 367-8121.
