On Tuesday, July 5, the Georgia Supreme Court reversed a decision by the Georgia Court of Appeals which had awarded $4 million dollars to Waycross resident Roy Knight.
Knight was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2009. He sued former employer Scapa Dryer Fabrics, believing that unsafe working conditions had resulted in his contraction of the deadly cancer.
He was awarded $4 million, but Scapa Dryer Fabrics appealed the verdict. The Georgia Supreme Court granted the appeal and went on to reverse the verdict, ruling that the Georgia Court of Appeals should not have allowed testimony about asbestos that was apparently misleading to the jury.
