On May 18, police arrested Jay Johnson, an employee of the South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. The arrest was made after a patient reported that the he had touched her inappropriately during an examination on April 28. Johnson was arrested without incident.
Johnson faces a charge of misdemeanor sexual battery.
Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress gave the following statement:
“The South Georgia Medical Center Administration to include SGMC Security have been very helpful and fully cooperative in this case and once the victim reported the incident, law enforcement was immediately notified and an investigation was initiated. Although it is unfortunate that the incident occurred, the situation was handled professionally and the offender was treated like everyone else.”
