Classroom renovations at The Appling County Elementary School recently were completed. The special education classroom renovations included a “home style” design to teach daily life skills by using a multi-sensory and functional life skills approach. An outdoor learning environment is connected to the special education classroom. This is an environment that allows the students the opportunity to work with their hands as well as encourage our students to take time to enjoy the beauty of nature. With the help of Tru Green, Thompson’s Farm Supply, Walmart, Johnny Johnson, and Hunter Johnson, the students and staff were able to make the outside area a tranquil place for our students with disabilities. In addition, building the environment provided the opportunity for some of our fifth grade students without disabilities to volunteer, unify, collaborate, and partner with our students with disabilities. This opportunity has provided many students, staff, and visitors of Appling County Elementary School an enriched educational environment.
