The Arts Council of Appling County will be hosting the first session of a quarterly Storytelling Series on Thursday, May 5. This event will be held at 6:30 PM at The Caroline Miller House, located at 96 Anthony Street in Baxley. Retired educator, Banner columnist and lauded storyteller, Mary Ann Ellis, will lead the group in the telling of her own favorite family story. Participants are invited to share their own stories throughout the evening. The event is free and all are invited to participate.
Storytelling is a true art of which we are all able to participate. Everyone has at least one good story to share. To quote the fine folks at Colquitt, GA’s successful production, Swamp Gravy, which is comprised each year of a variety of community stories from humorous to heartbreaking, “You’ve got a story and I’ve got a story. We’ve all got a story to tell. You’ve got a story and I’ve got a story, it’s one we know so well. You tell me yours and I’ll tell you mine. Then we’ll put ’em all together and spice ’em all up and we’ll have a storytelling time!”
The Arts Council of Appling County wants to focus on artistic and cultural experiences that are right within our community. What better way to do so than by swapping tales with one another? We hope you’ll all be as excited about this series as we are. Other series dates are:
September 1, 2016 – Hair-Raising Tall Tales, hosted by Dusty Gress
January 5, 2017 – (theme to be determined), hosted by Laurie Jo Upchurch
April 6, 2017 – (theme to be determined), hosted by Carole Edgy
