BAXLEY – At the request of Norfolk Southern Railroad, the Georgia Department of Transportation announces a road closure in conjunction with railroad crossing improvements on US 1/SR 4 between Park Avenue and Park Street/Lewis Lane in Downtown Baxley. US 1/SR 4 will be closed at the railroad crossing and traffic detoured from 9 a.m. through 2 p.m., Monday, March 7 and again Tuesday, March 8 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. All work is weather contingent.
Norfolk Southern Railroad crews will install the road closure with a detour in place as vehicular traffic cannot cross the railroad tracks during this work. The roadway will reopen early if the work is completed ahead of schedule or could possibly be closed longer if weather delays the work.
Motorists will be able to access businesses, schools, and residences in the area up to work zone.
The detour route will be signed as follows:
Traffic traveling northbound on US 1/SR 4 should turn right onto SR 15/Blackshear Highway; turn left onto City Circle Road; Turn left onto US 341/SR27/Golden Isles Parkway; turn right onto US 1/SR 4 where the detour ends.
